Advocacy

Childcare IS safety. And Safety Must Be  Supported at Every Level.

Project CARE advocates for a county where childcare is recognized — and funded — as a core component of domestic violence response, family safety, and community wellbeing.

Families Deserve Systems That  Support  Safety

Every day, survivors tell us the same truth: childcare is one of the biggest barriers that stands between them and safety. Without childcare, survivors cannot:

  • leave unsafe relationships
  • keep housing
  • maintain employment
  • attend court or PFA hearings
  • engage in medical or mental health care
  • go to therapy
  • rest enough to make safe decisions
  • give their children stability

Our advocacy work aims to shift how systems understand and fund childcare — because when families are supported, communities grow stronger.

Our Advocacy Priorities

We Are Working Toward A County Where

Every  Survivor  Has  Access  To  Childcare  Support

Our 7 Main Advocacy Priorities

Childcare must be understood as a vital part of safety planning for DV survivors — not an afterthought.

Partner agencies (DV shelters, courts, housing programs, county offices) must include childcare access in their service models.

Sustainable funding is essential to ensure Project CARE can support families at scale.

Providers need training and support to care for children experiencing transition, trauma, or instability.

Families deserve childcare environments that reflect their language, culture, and identities.

Caregivers navigating PFAs, custody issues, financial hardship, or transitional housing need flexible, responsive systems.

Safety grows through networks of care — not siloed systems.

Behind every number is a story of  strength

These stories are not rare.
They reveal systemic gaps that Project CARE is helping to fill — but that require broader structural support.
“Childcare was the only thing keeping me from leaving.”
“I couldn’t keep my job because I didn’t have childcare.”
“Once childcare was covered, everything became possible.”
“My daughter went from surviving to thriving.”
“I got safe because I finally had support.”
These stories reflect real experiences. Names and details have been anonymized to protect privacy. If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to a trusted hotline or local service.

Policy Frames We Stand On

Our policy stance is grounded in survivor wisdom and developmental science. When families stabilize, community-level indicators improve: employment, safety, school readiness, health, and wellbeing.

Economic Mobility

Survivors cannot maintain employment without reliable childcare.

Housing Stability

Housing programs succeed when families have childcare to support work and routine.

Trauma Mitigation for Children

Children in safe, consistent environments show rapid developmental and emotional improvements.

Safety

Access to childcare directly reduces the risk of returning to an abusive partner.

Community Strength

When families stabilize, community-level indicators improve: employment, safety, school readiness, health, and wellbeing.
